Free Menu Card Maker

Use the free menu card maker above to type your categories, items and prices, pick a layout and print it or save it to share. No signup is needed. Below the tool you will find how to make a menu card that actually works, standard print sizes in mm and inches, and when to use a printed card, a WhatsApp image or a QR menu.

The same steps work whether you need a cafe menu template, a restaurant menu card, a simple food menu for a home kitchen, or a wedding or party menu.

How to make a menu card: step by step

  1. Write the full list first, outside any design tool. A notebook or spreadsheet with category, item name, short description, veg/non-veg and price. See the cafe menu items list for ideas.
  2. Cut the list. Remove items you cannot make consistently or that rarely sell. Aim for 5 to 8 items per category.
  3. Fix the prices. Work from food cost, not guesswork; the menu pricing calculator helps.
  4. Choose the format. A4, A5, bi-fold, DL, tent card, wall board, or a phone-screen image for WhatsApp and QR (sizes below).
  5. Order the sections the way people order: drinks, starters or snacks, mains, desserts. In a coffee-first cafe, coffee goes first.
  6. Type items into the maker and keep names short. A description should fit in one line.
  7. Mark veg, egg and non-veg and note Jain or eggless options where you offer them.
  8. Highlight one or two items per section that you most want to sell.
  9. Proofread names and prices twice. Wrong prices on a printed card cause arguments at billing.
  10. Print one test copy, read it in your actual lighting, then print the full batch or export the image.

What makes a good menu card

  • Readable in one minute. Short sections, clear headings, nothing in tiny type.
  • Two fonts at most and strong contrast between text and background.
  • Prices aligned but not joined to items with dotted lines.
  • Short, specific names: "Paneer tikka sandwich" beats "Chef's special sandwich".
  • Add-ons listed once at the end of a section ("Add cheese", "Add ice cream").
  • Tax note stated once, clearly.
  • Logo and name at the top, phone or Instagram handle at the bottom if you take orders.

Making a menu in Word or for a local printer

If you prefer a free menu template for Word or another word processor, set the page size first (A4 or A5), use a two-column layout, and use tab stops with right alignment for prices instead of spaces. Export to PDF before sending to a printer, since fonts can change on another computer.

At a local print shop, ask for 250 to 300 gsm card for menus and lamination if the card will be handled daily. For weddings, textured or pearl card on A5 or DL looks elegant.
